Ashton Court festival: Every year, my friend Cloda comes over from Dublin for the Ashton Court Festival and usually insists that I accompany her.
We normally meet up with two friends who organise a kind of gastronomic event [sound of cork popping] in the form of a posh picnic [sound of champagne being poured] with specially hung meat, home-baked bread punch and mode-made chocolate mousse.
Then we proceed to get very sunburnt, fall over dancing and get cold because we’ve forgotten our sweaters.
One year I bumped into a friend who was running a “disinformation stall”, giving out maps with deliberately misplaced information just to confuse other festival-goers. Another time we got lost on the way to a free party afterwards and had to get a lift in an AA vehicle.
[Sound of owl hoots and nocturnal insects play over speech]
The evening finishes off with a go on the waltzer, then there’s a dodgy cycle ride back along the New Cut, avoiding nettles, and being scratched by brambles, as well as swaying pedestrians, to Renatos in King Street [pub background noise], for a late drink. The festival is over for another year.
